California state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner is gaining fast in the Republican primary for Governor against “front-runner” and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman.
Whitman now leads Poizner 38 percent to 29 percent among Republicans who said they were likely to vote in the June 8 primary, a recent survey by the Public Policy Institute of California found.
The same survey in March showed 61 percent supporting Whitman to 11 percent for Poizner.
Much of Poizner’s momentum can be credited to his blistering attacks on Whitman as favoring “amnesty” of illegal aliens. Whitman, a billionaire, has donated $68 million to her campaign from her personal fortune. While Poizner, a multimillionaire technology entrepreneur, has given $24.4 million to his campaign.
Here are two of Poizner’s television spots that are currently running, both blast Whitman as a supporter of the “Obama plan” on immigration…
In this ad, also focusing on immigration, Poizner saves California from flying over a cliff…
