Libertarian candidate Richard W. Shuey is currently polling 31.5% of the vote in a two-way race for Texas State House of Representatives. He trails Democrat J.M. Lozano, who has 68.5%.
Many votes remain to be counted in this district, but it is an encouraging showing for a state house candidate. Most other Libertarians in two-way races for Texas House are polling between 9% and 18% for their seats. If Shuey can hold on to his showing, he may be one of the strongest performers for the Libertarian Party in any state house race nationally.
The Libertarian Party currently has no elected members in any state legislature, but has elected members to the Alaska, New Hampshire and Vermont state houses in the past.
