Rand Paul, son of U.S. Congressman and former Presidential candidate Ron Paul, appears to be cruising to a comfortable victory in his Kentucky U.S. Senate race.
Democrat Jack Conway, the state’s Attorney General, appears to be trailing Paul by 11% according to early exit polling numbers, released shortly after the polls closed.
Paul’s likely victory is huge for the Tea Party movement and, particularly, for the libertarian wing of the Republican Party.
The first hard numbers started coming in shortly after 6pm, when polls closed.
As of 6:45pm, with 3% reporting from counties spread across the state…
Rand Paul (REP) – 20,104 votes (56%)
Jack Conway (DEM) – 16,095 votes (44%)
