Write-in votes are currently leading in the Alaska Senate race for the seat held by Lisa Murkowski.
Most media is reporting this as Murkowski leading, but there are more than 100 qualified write-in candidates running in this race. All we know for sure is that Republican Joe Miller hasn’t won a clean victory.
A tip of the hat to Richard Winger and Ballot Access News for a summary of the results as they stand at 3am Eastern time…
Write-in votes comprise 39.63% of the total for U.S. Senate. Republican nominee Joe Miller has 35.11%; Democratic nominee Scott McAdams has 24.27%; Libertarian nominee Frederick Haase has .51%; two independents together have .47%.
The state will now begin the long and painful process of counting and ruling on each write-in vote. We should also expect some legal challenges and other forms of electoral hand-to-hand combat that could probably last until Thanksgiving.
