Potential long-shot presidential candidate John Bolton is not happy with the way Osama bin Laden’s body was disposed of. Bolton served as the U.S. Representative to the United Nations from August 2005 until December 2006 on a recess appointment. He resigned in December 2006 when his recess appointment would have ended because he was unable to gain confirmation from the Senate.
“I would release the photographs, but I think that’s asking the wrong question,” the former ambassador told POLITICO after his speech to the Republican National Lawyer’s Association on Friday. Bolton suggested that body should have been returned to Guantanamo Bay for a closer examination to “make it clear beyond a doubt that it was Osama.”
Bolton has been coy about his Presidential ambitions, but created a stir in January when he was quoted telling a newspaper: “As I survey the situation, I think the Republican field is wide open. I don’t think the party’s anywhere close to a decision. And stranger things have happened. For example, inexperienced senators from Illinois have gotten presidential nominations.”
