Uncovered Politics recently reported that Michigan’s Thaddeus McCotter was eyeing a possible bid for the U.S. Senate — and not a run for the White House, as had been previously suggested — but POLITICO reported earlier today that the guitar-playing congressman is again eyeing the possibility of joining the Republican presidential field.
Why not?
“I think the majority of the Republican electorate isn’t happy with the choices they’ve got and want to take a look at new people,” the low-key and witty McCotter, 45, said in an interview with POLITICO yesterday.
The current crop of GOP candidates, he said, haven’t addressed the major issues facing the country, including globalization and the growing power and influence of Communist China.
Does the little-known five-term congressman really think he has a chance to become a viable candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, particularly at this late date?
“I’m from Detroit — we live to prove the doubters wrong,” he quipped.
