Massachusetts state Rep. Tom Conroy joined the growing field of Democrats hoping to unseat Sen. Scott Brown in 2012.
“I think I’m the only one of the candidates getting into this race right now who can beat Scott Brown,” Conroy told the National Journal yesterday.
Conroy, a risk management consultant who holds an undergraduate degree from Yale and graduate degrees from John Hopkins University and Boston University, joins a field that includes Newton Mayor Setti Warren, philanthropist Alan Khazei, immigration attorney Marisa DeFranco and environmentalist activist and former lieutenant governor candidate Robert Massie.
Former state Sen. Warren Tolman and business executive Robert Pozen are also reportedly considering entering the fray.
Disappointed by the current field, many Massachusetts Democrats are hoping that Harvard law professor and consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren, the former chair of the five-member TARP Oversight Committee who has been instrumental in creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will challenge Brown in 2012.
