Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who is expected to declare his candidacy in the next week and a half, told CNN’s Candy Crowley that President Obama has failed miserably when it comes to the economy.
“On the economic side, there are no signs of success, very little,” Huntsman said in his interview with Crowley. “You look at unemployment, you look at the environment in which jobs supposedly can be created, when you look at the debt level and you look at all the economic indicators, it would suggest that we’re in bad shape.”
Crowley’s full interview with Huntsman will air tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The soft-spoken former envoy to China is skipping Monday’s Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire, leaving the stage to presumptive frontrunner Mitt Romney, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, businessman Herman Cain and Texas congressman Ron Paul, who’s making his third bid for the White House.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, whose campaign staff resigned en masse earlier this week, is also expected to participate.
Gary Johnson, a former two-term governor of New Mexico, former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer and political consultant Fred Karger — all three of whom are waging serious campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination — weren’t invited to Monday’s nationally-televised debate.
