Rob Sobhani, an independent candidate for U.S. Senate in Maryland, is currently capturing 11.5% of the vote in early returns.
He reportedly spent over $5 million on his campaign and some polling had placed him ahead of the Republican, but behind incumbent Senator Benjamin Cardin, a Democrat.
Sobhani will set a new record for a U.S. Senate candidate in Maryland who is not a major party nominee if he wins over 13.1% of the vote according to Ballot Access News.
With results just starting to pour in, here’s an initial look at the numbers…
Cardin (D)(i) – 68.0% – 174,622 votes
Bongino (R) – 19.7% – 50,602 votes
Sobhani (I) – 11.5% – 29,411 votes
Ahmed (L) – 0.8% – 2,058 votes
