Libertarians Post Huge Vote Totals in Georgia, Texas Statewide Races

Libertarian candidates for statewide office fared very well this evening, particularly a handful of those running for some of the more obscure statewide offices in Georgia and Texas.

Several Libertarians running for offices such as Georgia Public Service Commission, Texas Railroad Commissioner and Texas Supreme Court managed to win more than 1 million votes in their respective races.

In his campaign for Georgia Public Service Commission, District 5, David Staples picked up 1,070,000 votes or 34.2% in a one-on-one race against incumbent Republican Stan Wise.   Staples, the Libertarian nominee, actually carried heavily populated DeKalb and Fulton counties.

Votes are still being counted in Texas, but the cumulative Libertarian vote there might be extraordinarily high when all is said and done.

On the downside, Libertarian nominees in two winnable races for state legislature appear to have been defeated in Colorado and South Carolina.  I will post full and final results from those contests tomorrow.
