Greg Orman, independent candidate for U.S. Senate in Kansas, has shot to a 7-point lead in his bid to topple Republican Senator Roberts. That’s according to a new poll out today from Public Policy Polling.
Orman has 41% to Roberts’ 34%, with Libertarian Randall Batson at 4%. Despite the fact that he dropped out of the race, 6% of voters are still choosing to support Democrat Chad Taylor.
The news for Orman only gets better if Taylor is allowed to remove his name from the ballot, an issue that has yet to be resolved in court. A one-on-one survey including only the Senator and his independent challenger shows Orman leading 46% to 36%.
“The big story in this race continues to be Roberts’ unpopularity,” notes PPP’s Tom Jensen. “Only 29% of voters approve of the job he’s doing to 46% who disapprove. Those numbers have barely budged from when he posted a 27/44 spread last month. Roberts continues to be plagued by his residence issues- only 29% of voters think he considers Kansas to be his home, compared to 53% who think it’s Washington DC.”
