Despite Strong Polling, Libertarian Barred from Florida Gubernatorial Debate

Wyllie-1

Florida voters who tune in to the Florida Press Association’s gubernatorial debate on October 15 will be able to hear from two Republican governors.  Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Scott will take on former Republican Governor Charlie Crist, who ditched the GOP in 2010 and is now the Democratic nominee to reclaim his old job.

Absent from the stage, despite polling the support of nearly 1 in 10 potential voters, will be Libertarian nominee Adrian Wyllie. Even as most voters have had their attention focused on the highly toxic battle between Scott and Crist, Wyllie, a former talk radio host and state party chairman, has been waging a full-time grassroots campaign for the state’s highest office for over a year.

The Libertarian’s hard work has finally begun to pay-off in the form of increased media attention, and it seems the harshly negative tone of the race is causing some voters to consider all of their options. Last month, a Quinnipiac University poll showed Crist leading Scott by a margin of 39% to 37%, with an eye-opening 9% of the vote going to Wyllie.

According to the most recent poll released yesterday by SurveyUSA, Wyllie is drawing 7% of the vote in the hotly contested race.  That’s despite being outspent by well over 100-to-1 by each of the major party candidates.  That survey includes a margin of error of 4.2%, which meant Wyllie’s 7% showing would have been enough to qualify him for a spot on the the debate stage under old rules which required a candidate to register at least 10% support in a reputable poll, including the margin of error.

That requirement has now been extended to 15%, closing the door on Wyllie’s participation unless he experiences a sudden sharp spike in polling numbers between now and the end of this month.

Florida Libertarians are hopeful that 2014 will be a breakthrough year for their party, which active nominees for Governor and Attorney General, and several promising candidates running in Congressional and state legislative races. Participation in a televised gubernatorial debate would have been a major boost for Wyllie and the party as a whole.

  1. Shows the corruption in our elections. It was 7% then 10% now they change it to 15%. Let the man speak. Floridians deserve to hear from the candidates running for office.

Vote Adrian Wyllie for Governor! Also, Bill Wohlsifer for Attorney General and yes on 2.

Why vote between 2 known liars? Florida, we are fortunate enough not to

be stuck picking one liar or the other this time. We actually have an

alternative. Take advantage of the opportunity. Adrian Wyllie deserves

my vote. He is a honest average Floridian just as you and I , that is

willing to stand up and do something for the interest of all of us here

in Florida. The other candidates both Republican and Democrat are owned

and controlled by special interest, like puppets and will lie to your

face to gain your vote, then continue the same old agenda that we

complain about year after year. Time to get off this merry-go-round,

election after election, thinking it will be any different. Take a

stand, vote for the candidate that loves this state and is willing to

take time out of his life, effort and money to SERVE the people of

Florida and stop voting for these ‘paid for’ career politicians that are

only out for money and fame and have zero interest in us Floridians.

Even if it’s just for honesty alone, vote for Adrian Wyllie instead of

the other two (Scott/Crist) which are proven liars. The choice is yours

and yours alone, if you want the same old corruption and slap in the

face, go ahead and vote for one of the two puppets (Scott/Crist) OR do

what is right for our (yours and your children’s) future and vote for

Adrian Wyllie. Support him by donating to his campaign, spreading the

word and contribute to the super brochure program which I think is very

    powerful. Visit his website today..

  2. All my friends, my family and myself are voting for Adrian Wyllie for Florida Governor!

  3. No wonder establishment media is failing in this country. It parrots the establishment line as faithfully and without fail as Pravda or Xinhua ever did.
