State representative Brett Hulsey is launching an Independent write-in campaign for Wisconsin governor with less than 2 weeks to go before the election. The Madison-area representative filed his candidacy with the state’s Government Accountability Board at the end of last week. He is not seeking re-election to the Wisconsin Assembly.
“I will stop outsourcing Wisconsin jobs with your tax money, unlike the two major party candidates. We need a real Wisconsin jobs plan, not more of the same old thing,” said Hulsey.
Hulsey lost the Democratic gubernatorial primary to Mary Burke earlier this year. He polled only 17% statewide, but came close to winning 30% in Milwaukee. He then changed his registration from Democrat to Independent.
“Wisconsin voters deserve a real choice for change, not just more of the same old squabbling politics,” Hulsey said. “I am the only candidate with a practical plan to create at least 32,000 jobs to get Wisconsin working again. I used University of Wisconsin and other Wisconsin experts, not outsourced consultants or lobbyists.”
With the governor’s race locked in a virtual tie, Hulsey’s campaign seems like a last minute squeeze of some sour grapes.
“If it appears that I am helping re-elect Gov. Walker at the end, I will pull out,” Hulsey noted.
