Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who is expected to declare her intentions next month in Iowa, spent Memorial Day in New Hampshire.
Bachmann, 55, took part in a parade in North Hampton yesterday morning before speaking at an event organized by the Strafford County and Dover Republican Committee later in the day.
When asked whether Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor who recently embarked on a bus tour that will eventually take her to New Hampshire, could influence her decision on whether or not to get into the race, Bachmann skillfully skirted the question.
She refused to compare her own attributes — what she would personally bring to the campaign as a candidate — to those of a potential Palin candidacy.
“Well, you know the person that I compare myself to is Barack Obama and I think that’s a very favorable comparison,” said Bachmann, a three-term member of the U.S. House.
Bachmann, a darling of the Tea Party movement, said last week that she will announce whether or not she plans to run for president in 2012 in her birthplace of Waterloo, Iowa, sometime in June.
