Anthony Vieyra was the only non-Democrat on the ballot in Tuesday’s primary for the U.S. House District 35 seat, and it seems to have benefited his showing significantly.
Despite having raised and spent less than $5,000 on his campaign, Vieyra won a surprising 19% in the 3-way contest. Incumbent Congressman Joe Baca was held to 45% and will face off against fellow Democrat Glorida McLeod in the November general election.
“Good news, the sun came up and it’s another beautiful day. Thanks be to God! And for all my friends, neighbors, and all who supported me, also a big thanks,” Vieyra wrote to his supporters on Facebook the day after the election. “While we may think we rely on politicians to help us out, it’s really God who has our back. Continued blessing and goodness will come our way.”
